About Michael

With over 40 years’ experience as a Partner, Chairman and later Consultant at lawyers Stone King LLP, working largely in the Charity and Education sectors, Michael King has retired as a solicitor.


He was a founder member of the Charity Law Association of which he was Chairman from 1997 to 2000 and while in practice was recognised by Chambers Directory and Legal 500 as a leader in Charity law & practice. 


He has held 7 appointments by the Charity Commission as Interim Manager of charities in difficulty, including Nottinghamshire Miners Home and the international relief charity Muslim Aid. Michael wrote with Ann Phillips “Charities Act 2006 – Guide to the New Law “ (Law Society 2007) and was Chairman of the Catholic Charity Conference, 1990-2014.


Michael is an accredited Mediator and available to carry out mediation in the voluntary sector. Recent clients include: Cardiff UniversityKennel ClubRoyal College of GPs and British Psychological Society.


He is a trustee of 4 charities and his interests include family, tennis, sailing, shooting and watching rugby.
